Founded in 1974, Das Puppenspiel is an ensemble of uniquely talented visual and performing artists with a single vision of the creation and performance of quality theatre for children and adults, using mask, mime and a variety of puppet types to portray that vision. A philosophy of treating children as an intelligent and discerning audience, in concert with meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of staging, has led to a reputation for excellence with audiences and presenters alike. The Company has performed for over 2,400,000 people in over 44 states and abroad at theatres, schools, arts councils, festivals, special events and with "live" philharmonic orchestra. In recognition of its artistry, Das Puppenspiel has been selected for performance at International Children's Theatre Showcases presented by the Children's Theatre Association of America and Producers Association of Children's Theatre, as well as numerous International Children's Festivals held in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and elsewhere. The Company also receives the endorsement and support of NYS Foundation on the Arts "Artist in Residence" program, NYS Council on the Arts, the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County, Union International de la Marionette (UNIMA), NYS BOCES "Arts in Education" series, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, and is one of a handful of puppet theatres receiving recognition and support from the Theater Program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
